Help:Searching

From EUROCONTROL ATM Lexicon
Jump to: navigation, search

The quickest way to find information in the EUROCONTROL ATM Lexicon is to look it up directly. On the left-hand side of your screen there is a Search box with two buttons under it labeled "Go" and "Search".

Put your keyword in the searchbox.

  • Go - (or Enter on keyboard) If the precise term exists in the database, the entry will be displayed directly; if the term is part of other terms, a list of results of all the relevant terms will be displayed; furthermore any occurrence of the search term, even in the page text, will be displayed as a list of results.
  • Search - All pages containing the search word will be displayed in a result list.

If you clicked 'search', or you clicked 'go' and the page you were looking for did not exist, you will be presented with a list of entries that matched your search criteria (or a message that no matches were found).

  • The search is not case-sensitive.

Advanced search

The default search will be done in the “Main” repository that contains exclusively validated terms and definitions. Any work in progress (unreviewed terms and definitions) will be stored under the “Help:Namespaces” section and, once approved, will be moved by the administrator to the “Main” section of the EUROCONTROL ATM Lexicon.

Once, the user has done a normal search, the Advanced search functionality is displayed at the end of the result list.

Search by category

This type of search allows you to search the Lexicon by subject category. As this is the beta version of the Lexicon tool, the existing categories will need to be refined and supplemented.

Search by context

This search function will be available in the near future, once we have defined the relevant search contexts.

Restricting the search

By default only the namespaces specified in your preferences will be searched. Logged-in users can change their preferences to specify the namespaces they want to search by default, or if you just want to specify different namespaces for a single search then you can do so on the search results page.
