The AMSS comprises satellites, aeronautical earth stations (AESs), ground earth stations (GESs) and associated ground facilities such as a network coordination center. It uses the satellite subnetwork to provide aeronautical communication services between aircraft and ground users. Technical requirements for the AMSS are contained in Annex 10, Volume III, Part I, Chapter 4. The ATN supports the packet-mode data exchange provided by the AMSS.
