Overview
The transition to ATC data communications provides a unique opportunity to record and analyse air/ground communications in a way that was not possible for voice based communications. All messages sent and received by an ATSU may be recorded alongside other information, such as Flight Plans, and used for later analysis. This can be used to identify problems at the technical level and to monitor performance. Data from different airlines and Flight Crews can be compared, conclusions drawn, and example of good practice disseminated and used to improve the use of data link and further enhance its benefits. To this end the LINK2000+ Programme developed the LINK2000+ Statistics Reporting and Analysis Tool (LISAT) which provides a normalised SQL database that handles large volumes of data.
Objective
LISAT is an analysis tool to be used with operational logs extracted from the operational system. It is integrated into the PRISME data warehouse and its purpose is to:
- Support CPDLC operational monitoring through generation of routine statistical reports on CPDLC data-link usage and performance, with minimal operator effort;
- Support additional technical analysis on data link usage and performance in support of investigations;
- Provide access to ANSPs and Airlines for routine statistical reports on CPDLC data-link usage and performance based on data associated with their own operations.
Main Functions
The main functions of LISAT are the importing of data into an SQL database and the creation of various reports for different stakeholders.
Data Import
An important part of LISAT is data import to the database. An XML Document Type Definition (DTD) has been specified and is the required input format for all data processed by the tool. This XML DTD is the standard for the interchange of recorded data. A utility has been created to convert the log files provided by the DL-FEP from embedded PER encoded messages to the XML import format required for LISAT. Log files are uploaded via a web interface and once data has been imported into the database, the result is an up-to-date record of air/ground activity held in a fully normalised relational database, integrated with the other data available from the PRISME data warehouse, giving the possibility to query the data in many different ways for different purposes.
Reporting
PRISME uses ORACLE Business Intelligence software to make a number of performance reports available to different stakeholders via a number of different stakeholder portals. A series of videos are available to demonstrate how to access and use these portals.
It is also possible for ANSPs to download the data in a format suitable for loading into a spreadsheet for specific further processing if required. This is provided via the LISAT ANSP Data Download Service accessible via the EUROCONTROL OneSky extranet for registered users.
Interface protocol
The XML information exchange format that is used when uploading data to LISAT is available from the library.
